As Remote Zero-Contact Business Booms, 5G Configuration Becomes Key Driving Force

The coronavirus pandemic has drastically changed people’s lives on a global scale. With the need for reducing physical contact and social distancing, remote and zero-contact businesses are on the rise. The configuration and construction of 5G will become the driving force for relevant implementations.

5G Enhances Remote Implementation with Lower Latency and Higher Fidelity

The zero-contact business opportunities triggered by the pandemic include: online diagnosis and remote healthcare in the medical sector; delivery, e-commerce and digital cash flow in daily life-related sectors; along with video/audio streaming and home workouts in the entertainment sector. The zero-contact business opportunities arising from telecommuting are related to remote working, such as video conferencing, cooperation software, cloud, and so on. If these implementations can leverage quick, stable and low-latency network systems, combined with relevant technologies such as AI and big data, we will be able to enter a brand new level of experience.

“Remote” has now become integral to many aspects of people’s lives. However, there are some things that cannot be accomplished remotely, including communications via non-linguistic messages, demonstrations of physical objects, and the atmosphere and team spirit developed from being in the same place. The development of 5G technology may improve these relevant implementations.

For instance, the combination of 5G and AR/VR technologies will enable more applications of high-fidelity remote software, such as conferencing software using 3D video chat service to enhance sense of presence, demonstrating products to clients with VR headsets, achieving zero-contact business visits, and so on. If we want to elevate the goal of remote healthcare from “diagnosis” to “treatment,” we will need extremely high internet quality to complete difficult tasks, such as remote surgery. Therefore, 5G is an indispensable element for building a “remote” world in the future.

5G Enhances Remote Learning Experience

The pandemic has caused large-scale school closures, a rare phenomenon in modern society. According to UNESCO statistics, more than eight hundred million students are currently unable to go to school. Due to the pandemic, different countries have experimented with various teaching methods, among which remote teaching that combines software and hardware technologies plays an important role.

Compared to in-person teaching, remote teaching has more restrictions on implementation and discussion, and needs the configuration of relevant software and devices. If 5G infrastructure can be fully configured, both teachers and students will have more real-time and smooth experience in recording, maintaining and cloud sharing of teaching materials. For instance, live streaming classes are currently restricted by high-latency networks, making it difficult to have a smooth mutual interaction. 5G technology can achieve interactive multi-people live streaming, and can work with technologies like 3D printing to integrate online and offline environments, so that the learning experience can be enhanced.
